Each city and surrounding area provide unique opportunities for fashion designers to express themselves.
Fashion designers have been criticized on several occasions for creating inferior fashions, or for objectifying women. These criticisms have resulted in the founding of some of the most prestigious fashion schools in the world. Fashion degrees are designed to provide students with an extensive background in the fashion design field. Students are taught how to identify current fashion trends, what inspires designers, what makes great clothing, and how to market the finished product. Graduates of the various fashion degrees are expected to know how to effectively manage their own careers and how to promote the clothing line that they helped create.
Every year, fashion weeks and exhibits are held to showcase new trends. These fashion weeks give designers the chance to show off their work. At one point or another every year, major fashion outlets are holding fashion shows in order to get the general public interested in the latest fashions. In addition to holding fashion shows, these events allow designers to display their latest designs to the public.
